Shifting Perspectives2009-03-10 00:00:00Every Tuesday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting druids and those who group with them. This week John Patricelli, sometimes known as the Big Bear Butt Blogger, continues the new Druid leveling guide with levels 6 through 10.
So far in our series of Druid leveling tips, we started with preparing to play a Druid, and then covered the basic strategies of levels 1 through 5. Today we're going to talk a little about weapon skills, Entangling Roots and your first real Druid specific challenge; the level 10 Bear Form quest chain.
Go ahead and dive in after the break!
Status Check; A-OK
In our last article, we covered the basics of using Wrath, Moonfire, the 5 second rule and the concept of a planned combat sequence.
There's an old saying that no plan survives contact with the enemy, but having a practiced, well thought out approach to handling an enemy lets you free up your concentration for improvisation; once you have the basics down, go mix it up and have some fun.
Try not to get too fixed on one plan, just use your combat sequence as a starting point. Once you are comfortable with your abilities and your timing, experiment. See how fast you can chain your Wraths together, or switch thi...

Every Tuesday, or sometimes Friday when the writer's internet has gone AWOL between Sunday evening and Thursday afternoon, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting Druids and those who group with them. This week we take a look at the upcoming patch 3.0.8. while penning an angry letter to our ISP.
Greetings, folks. Patch 3.0.8 is coming, bringing a few significant changes for the Druid class. Feral attack power is disappearing from the game entirely alongside bonus armor contribution from non-leather items. Restoration is receiving a nerf in the form of a 6-second cooldown to Wild Growth but is otherwise getting some buffs. Balance is also getting a few buffs, including one that will make a big difference to PvP combat versus Rogues and Hunters. But I think, dear readers, we are overlooking the most important part of patch 3.0.8:
Fixed a bug with a Wild Mustard plant that was under the ground in Dalaran.
Oh, thank God. That drove me nuts.
(Really).
(I'd also love to see them do something about the underground Tiger Lily spawn in Sholazar).
(It's just south of River's Heart).
(Really annoying).
(Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?).

Shifting Perspectives2009-03-10 00:00:00Every Tuesday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting druids and those who group with them. This week brings John Patricelli, sometimes known as the Big Bear Butt Blogger, to begin looking at leveling the class from the ground up.
So, you've been thinking of rolling a Druid. You've seen Druids in your guild tanking Heroics or Prince Malchezaar with their Big Bear Butt, you've seen them flying overhead in Flight form, before dropping from the sky in the middle of a pack of mobs and clawing faces and chewing limbs as a Ferocious Cat, or maybe you've seen the incredibly smooth and powerful healing of your favorite Golden Tree. Or maybe the last thing you saw in PvP was a Feathered Owlbear bringing down the Wrath of the Starfire on your head, or holding you immobile and helpless with their Whirlwind.
Or maybe you just want to look like another hunter pet.
Whatever the reason, something about the Druid class interests you, and maybe you'd like to know a bit more before making the plunge.
Well my friends, with the changes to experience brought in Patch 2.3, leveling a new alt or creating a main character has never been more attractive.
This article is to get you acquainted with the Druid class a...
Shifting Perspectives2009-03-10 00:00:00Every Tuesday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting druids and those who group with them. This week John Patricelli, sometimes known as the Big Bear Butt Blogger, starts his series on leveling a new Druid from 1st level all the way to 70th.
Before I begin my series on leveling your new Druid from 1st through 70th levels, I'm going to start with some of the things you can do to prepare.
Why not just leap right on into level 1? My reasoning is simple, just like me. When you have been watching Druids claw face as bears or cats, or as a new player you read about the description of t...
Should All Priests get Fear Ward2009-03-10 00:00:00Plucked straight from the ongoing discussion on the official forums, I take on this hot topic. Since the beginning of time, hmm, ok, since WoW's launch, there has been disharmony among men (and women) who play priests. The problem has been the inclusion of several "racial talents" and the perceived lack of balance between them. Some are very good, some are down right useless. The most controversial though has always been the dwarf Fear Ward ability.
Fear Ward, for those who may not know, is a spell that puts a buff on the target that allows them to ignore the next fear causing effect. Once you have been feared, the buff is used up and must be recast on you. The buff lasts 10 minutes and the spell has a 30 second cooldown. This means that in most cases it can prevent most PvE fears. It is also very useful in PvP where it can be used to ignore the fears cast by many opponents.
Players very quickly learned what an advantage this was in Raids and PvP encounters that many players rolled Dwarf priests just for the ability. Many times despising the dwarf race completely, but wanting the ability and its perceived strengths and advantages. The dwarf being an Alliance race, led to the belief that the Alliance had...
Should Arthas, Another WoW Hero, Die2009-03-10 00:00:00Throughout WoW's history, we've been introduced to many characters, including many foes, including an Old God, a servant of the Old Gods, and powerful dragons rivaling the most powerful heroes in Azeroth. Players have been able to go up and defeat these foes, and while they have had no real impact on the story, it gave players a satisfaction that they defeated something evil, something dangerous and way more powerful than themselves.
Before the Burning Crusade, Blizzard started adding their lore heroes into the game, making them be able to be killed. Kel'thuzad was the first in line. Appearing in the final content update before the expansion, Kel'thuzad was only reached by a select few guilds, and killed by even less. The story allowed for him to revive, since turning in his philactery led to the Scarlet Crusade priest's insanity, and upon thanking you he'd mumble off talking about "taking good care of it", hinting he'd use it for ill purposes and revive the Lich once more.
Then, the Burning Crusade launched, introducing Outland and the villains within, including the "Final 3" - Lady Vashj, Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, and Illidan Stormrage. These 3 are very well known in the lore, unlike the old world ...
Simple Wood no longer needed to make campfires2009-03-10 00:00:00This is quite possibly the most game altering change Blizzard has implemented in WoW thus far: Building a Basic Campfire no longer needs Simple Wood, only Flint and Tinder or a Gnomish Army Knife. This is right up there with stackable clams! Personally, my mind is blown.
Okay, let's be serious, this is actually a fairly decent (and convenient) change. Is it absolutely needed? No, not at all, but how many of us carried around Simple Wood and ...
Sneak peek at World of Warcraft comic issue 162009-03-10 00:00:00The official WoW website has put up a preview for issue 16 of the World of Warcraft comic. I have to say, this one doesn't look nearly as facepalm inducing as the last few. In fact, aside from a few art oddities (did Valeera just trip up there?), it looks like a pretty good start for this arc.
It looks like this arc is not only focused on Garona's half human, quarter orc, quarter draenei son, but a few other things, too. It looks like this arc will focus somewhat on Fandral Staghelm and the state of Teldrassil, what's happened to Ahn'qiraj since we were there last and potentially the relationship between King Varian and Valeera. To avoid...
